How long does a visit take?

Most visitors spend 45 to 90 minutes on the viewing levels. Add about 15 minutes for check-in and security at busier slots. There is no time limit once you are up there, so you can stay through sunset if your slot lands near it.

Is The View from The Shard worth it?

If you want the single widest, highest view of London, yes — nothing else public gets you to 244 metres, and Level 72 is open to the sky. If you are on a tight budget, the free Sky Garden gives you a lower view for nothing. If the weather is poor and you cannot move your date, consider waiting.

What happens if it rains or the cloud comes in?

The gallery stays open in rain and fog, and refunds are not given for weather. Some people love standing inside a cloud; most would rather see the city. If your dates are flexible, book a flexible ticket so you can move your slot when the forecast turns.

Is it accessible for wheelchair users?

Levels 68 and 69 are normally step-free, reached by lift from the entrance on Joiner Street. Please note that during temporary works from 6 April to 31 May, step-free access between Levels 68 and 69 is not available. Level 72 is reached by stairs. Accessible toilets are provided, and assistance dogs are welcome.

Can I take a pushchair up?

Yes. Pushchairs are allowed in the lifts and on Levels 68 and 69. Level 72 is up a flight of stairs, so you would need to leave the pushchair on 69 or carry a smaller child.

Can I skip the queue?

There is no ticket queue if you have booked a timed slot online — you go straight to check-in. Everyone passes through a short airport-style security check. The quietest times are the first hour after opening on weekdays.

What is it like at night?

Very different, and often quieter. From about an hour after sunset the city becomes a grid of lights, with Tower Bridge and the City towers lit. Bring a steady hand or rest your phone on the rail, and shoot from Level 72 to avoid glass reflections.

Yes, children under four go free, though you should still include them when you book so the headcount is right.
